Cant lose weight?...the bad news is that losing weight and getting healthy is HARD WORK, the good news is that YES you can do it- heck it's incredibly exciting changing your life!.
In fact I'll let you into a secret... you can lose weight, improve your health, and do just about anything you want with determination, motivation and a positive attitude. Just watch the awesome movie 'The Secret' at the bottom of this page.
As we all know, there is no magic pill and fad diets don't work. Success is a matter of finding a program you enjoy and that works for you.
However, having witnessed hundreds of clients reach their personal health and weight loss goals, there are always a few clients that really struggle and give up on their weight loss journey.
Despite a great plan, motivation and lots of support, some people find the process too difficult. Here are a few common traits that make some people more likely to struggle at losing weight than others.
Failure to plan.
Failure to plan is a plan to fail. If you don't take the time to plan and prepare your meals and thoroughly understand your weight loss program you limit your success.
Re-organise your fridge and cupboards, get rid of all the high fat, high sugar, processed foods that have kept you unhealthy. Prepare some delicious food ahead of time so you always have some great food choices available. Planning a weeks worth of food and making sure you have the groceries available, is a great way to stay on track and maintain your motivation.

Plan a non food reward for ever 10, 15 or 20 lbs you lose. Document your journey and plan to succeed.
Fear of food.
Some people are so confused and scared to eat that they miss breakfast, eat a light lunch and end up being ravenous in the evening. When you are tired and hungry at night time you tend to binge or make unhealthy food choices. If you eat a good breakfast,
throughout the day you are less likely to over eat at night time.
Get excited about eating, find some recipes and foods you really enjoy and make the time to eat the bulk of your healthy food during the day. Try a
in the morning, a salad or wrap for lunch and lowfat cheese and grapes for snack and watch the weight fall off.
You need to eat to lose weight.
Everyone else is more important than themselves. Their boyfriend, wife, husband, children, work and even their pets take priority in their life. To be successful at weight loss you need to put yourself first and do this journey for you.
Adopt a 'me first' attitude. Gain support from your family members, encourage them to improve their health with you.
If this reminds you of yourself, learn to look after you first, believe me- everyone in your life will benefit.
This is a term we made for those clients that make up constant excuses which corrupts their motivation. For example, 'I couldn't eat properly because I was too busy, my friend made me go to Macdonalds and eat a big mac, I hurt my leg and couldn't cook, I cant lose weight because my dogs sick' etc. You name it...we've heard it.
You need to hold yourself accountable, stop the 'I cant lose weight' excuses and take responsibility for your food choices!
Don't think that losing weight is going to solve all the problems in the world. If you are living a high stress lifestyle then you may need to address those 'stressors' first.
Major stressors can be work related, relationship problems, financial woes, substance abuse etc. We all have stress in our lives but too much stress will take your attention away from you and your weight loss goal.
Deal with your everyday stress first, otherwise you will stress yourself more if you start a weight loss program and fail to lose weight.
Maybe you need to think about how you deal with stress. Stress is when things don't go the way you expect them too- perhaps your expectations are too high? There are many books and tools to help you cope with stress and adopt a healthier attitude . A supplement such as a B vitamin complex or stress formula will also help.
Moreover, research shows that when you are constantly stressed your body releases a fat storage hormone called Cortisol from the adrenal glands which can make you crave fattening foods and gain even more weight.
Hence the saying 'Stress makes you Fat'!
When you are changing your dietary habits to a healthier way of eating, socializing too much can sabotage your efforts and make you say 'I cant lose weight'. Socializing with friends and family often means food and alcohol and can makes us feel deprived .
Restaurants will often try and fill you up on cheap fattening carbohydrates such as bread and potatoes. You have no control over the fat and sugar content and portion sizes are often too large. If desserts are your weakness, they are sure to show you their yummy dessert menu.
Getting together with girlfriends often involves wine, and getting together with the boys often involves beer. Then out come the high fat snacks.
Friends will encourage you on your weight loss journey, but they don't like you to do too well particularly if they struggle with their weight too.
The “I can't, I don't, I won't...” mentality.
Do you ever find yourself saying “I can't eat that, I don't like that, I won't succeed....” Sometimes we surround ourselves with stop signs that prevent us from achieving our goals.
If we have lost and gained back weight several times, we can unwittingly program ourselves into believing that we will fail yet again and really believe that we cant lose weight.
I always think of the childrens story about 'Thomas The Tank Engine',
the train is called Thomas and he is going up a steep hill and he huffs and puffs and says “ I can do it...I can do it....I can do it...and he does, he makes it to the top of the hill!
